I have a working Ubuntu 22.04 LTS guest on my Mojave 10.14.6 Mac host. Today, with a newer MacOS and a more recent Ubuntu, I am encountering similar but distinct problems, and the older (and useful) advice I got here no longer seems to apply, hence this new topic. Maybe a reboot or something did the trick.Four years ago, I had trouble with Guest additions & Shared Folders an Ubuntu guest on my High Sierra Mac, and I asked around a dozen of topics about this issues in this forum. I'm not sure why it suddenly started working. I used them both because I didn't seem to be able to open the shared folder right away after using the first one. Everything now work as you describe.ĭo the 2 commands below essentially do the same thing? One difference that I notice is that the second one gives a feedback message, "Adding. I started from scratch by creating a new virtual machine (Linux Mint 19.1 Mate, just like in the OP) and installing Guest Additions.

Same VBox settings, shared folder always mounted no problem. On my previous system (no data partition), the shared folder was my home directory. That just happens to be where I mount a data partition and this is the only way to let the VMs share said data partition (which I restrict to read-only, to prevent inadvertent edits). It's irrelevant that the path for my shared folder is on /mnt (of the host system).

I did the same when setting up my Windows virtual machine (which was the first virtual machine that I created), and it seems to be working ok. So, that's the path that shows on that screen. When I set up the shared folder on that screen, I created an empty folder in "Documents" on the host machine. I see that the path for your shared folder is in /mnt. The screen shots that you posted are helpful. But, I still need to learn how to get "the car out of the driveway" sometimes I am excited about the possibilities with virtual machines. That's awesome that you have so many virtual machines going. Per Permissions, my access comes through the vboxsf group. Checking just now, the shared folder is mounted directly into /media and owned by root. Anyhoo, no, I've never added myself to anything other than vboxsf. Have more than a dozen VMs set up right now, and were many others I've since deleted. To me it's easy and obvious, but I've done it more times than I can count. Sorry, can't figure out where you're going sideways.
